First, I would like to introduce myself.
My name is Hartmut Hegewald and I was born in Karlsruhe (Germany) in 1952 and grew up near Düsseldorf and Cologne (Germany). After graduating from High School, and lengthy music studies (violin and guitar), I combined my passion for music and my love of working with my hands by choosing the profession of a guitar maker.
After my apprenticeship and the completion of my master craftsman´s diploma, I have been working as a self employed master guitar maker since 1980. Initially, the emphasis was on the construction of western and acoustic guitars, mandolins and various customized models.
In the eighties I spent a lot of time on the acoustic problems of plucked instruments, before I concentrated on perfecting the classical guitar.
I was inspired by the old Spanish guitars from the days of Torres (1817 - 1892). Nowadays when I make my concert guitars, I apply the principles of construction of the Spanish guitar makers of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
I live with my wife in Bönen, a small town situated between Sauerland, the Ruhr Valley and Münsterland (Germany).
